About
Lindstrom/Hicks
The
team of Lindstrom/Hicks was formed to combine
the advertising and marketing talents of the team at Communiqué
Design & Marketing, Inc. and the unparalleled audio and
video talents of Hark
Productions, both of Ithaca, NY. The two companies worked
so well together on commercial projects, this soon branched into documentaries
and eventually narrative films. "Waiting on Alphie" combines
not only the talents of these two companies but many of the vendors
and friends acquired over the years.
Eric C Lindstrom
grew up in Binghamton, NY and made 8mm movies as a kid with his
friend-for-life, Doug Russell. Inspired by films like "Raiders
of the Lost Ark" and "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,"
Eric and Doug mainly wrote and directed adventure westerns (that contained
an occasional special effect of someone's face melting or a baby exploding
... more on this here). It was this misspent
youth making movies, and plugging 1,000 quarters a week into the arcades
at the Oakdale Mall, that helped Eric get to where he is today ... a
big shot Producer with a new suit. In 1991, Eric opened an advertising
agency and continued to apply his artistic skills to logos and brochures
and marketing. "Waiting on Alphie" is the next turning point
in Eric's moviemaking/ creative career. The first turning point in this
career was meeting Kevin Hicks.
Kevin Hicks
is an Ithaca native who initially ventured
out to Hollywood to be an actor and screenwriter. He appeared in a
few small productions, most notably Amy Grant's video, "Baby Baby"
(he's the guy in the hat with the puppy - don't blink). Eventually,
Kevin decided that Hollywood wasn't his bag, but his wife Vickie was.
Together, they left California with the first of their two children
and, in the next 5 years, would live in four different states. From
teaching music in Colorado to waiting tables as Elmer Fudd in Texas,
Kevin always kept the creative juices flowing. A confident songwriter,
Kevin added novelist, commercial sound producer and videographer/director
to his list of abilities. By 2003, Hark
Productions had grown from a sideline jingle business to an award-winning
video and audio production company. "Waiting On Alphie" is
easily the logical next step in Kevin's career, combining his seasoned
story-telling abilities with the tenacity and attention to detail that
a feature project demands.

As it was before
World War I, moviemaking has returned to Ithaca,
NY, the original Hollywood of the East.
"Looking back
at the rich moviemaking history of Ithaca is an inspiration on its
own. Producing other projects regionally (including a documentary
on the Cayuga Wine
Trail) gave us the confidence to produce a narrative that can
run the film festival circuit in 2006," says Eric C Lindstrom,
Producer. "Kevin Hicks (Director)wrote this screenplay based
on a story concept I had, over a year ago and we decided this year
to produce it on our own. We are now casting the parts and assembling
the crew." (Feb 2005)
Unlike the films
of Ithaca's past, "Waiting on Alphie" was shot and edited
digitally, which has had a tremendous impact on the filmmaking industry.
Many of today's top independent films are shot digitally and this
is not only a cost-saving measure but it saves time in postproduction
as well. "Our experience with digital has been so successful
we decided to make this movie completely on a digital platform,"
said Kevin Hicks, Director. "Technology and improvements in video
cameras has made it possible to create low-cost movies with high aesthetic
value. More and more movie makers are going in this direction."
