Detroit's
"Best Kept Musical Secret" to Score Film Soundtrack
[ITHACA, NY] Wayne
Gerard is Detroit's best kept secret but all that's about to change.
This musical artist has worked as a producer for Jeff and Mark Bass,
the Oscar and Grammy winning duo behind Eminem and his hit 'Lose Yourself.'
Now Wayne is about to embark on his newest project, writing the score
for "Waiting on Alphie" a new independent feature film out
of New York.
For an artist who
has worked on projects for Madonna, Garbage, Dr. Fink, Pitchshifter,
and Bob James and has played with Earl Klugh, Lenny White, and Geri
Allen this is just one more way to show his flexibility and talent
in music.
"Hearing Wayne's
music and seeing the range of his talents, we knew he would be perfect
for our movie," said Kevin Hicks, Director. "When you discover
someone as talented and Wayne and put something as deeply textured
as our film in front of him, we can only guess what the final is going
to sound like."
An artist from the
breeding grounds of Hip Hop and Techno, Wayne has had varied success
while flying under the radar. His style is a collage of Hip Hop, 70's
funk, breakbeat, and rock. The movie's official soundtrack also features
artists from around the world, like "Go Jimmy Go," "The
Missing Planes," "Anevis," and "BJ O'Malley"
that have this same eclectic and diverse range.
Wayne made his name
as a session guitarist playing for artists as varied as Bob James,
Patti Smith, Geri Allen and Alexander Zonjic. "I went to Wayne
State University for jazz studies but I grew up listening to Prince,
Kraftwerk, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Miles so I was labeled as 'too eclectic'...not
being true to the art. But my gift is being able to draw on many influences
to make a cohesive whole." This will be evident in the movie's
final score and soundtrack.
"I've met and
worked with some of the most talented and gifted people in the world,
but the artists in Detroit are the real deal. Maybe there's something
about the realities of urban life and the ever-shifting climate that
gives the culture here that edge." Wayne plans to introduce this
'edge' to the movie, which takes place in Buffalo, New York and features
two men in an overnight standoff.
Wayne has started
to score "Waiting for Alphie" which is currently in post-production
and has a Fall 2005 release date. The movie was based on a story by
Eric C. Lindstrom and was written and directed by Kevin Hicks. "Kevin
is a visionary. He brings a unique outlook and a burning intensity
to everything he does. I'm looking forward to trying to match the
visuals with the right music and sound design," said Wayne.
