Waiting on Alphie

About Eric C Lindstrom

Although I was born on Long Island and spent a few years of my childhood in Golden (home of Coors Beer), Colorado, my real upbringing took place in Binghamton, New York.

Home to Rod Serling, carousels, and spiedies It is also the place where I first got interested in filmmaking.

During the summer of 1980 my friend Doug and I would shoot Super 8mm films that were based on early westerns (I was a BIG Clint Eastwood fan), James Bond movies (this was when Roger Moore played 007), and bad sci-fi/horror (remember "The Thing with Two Heads"). All of this changed (somewhat) in 1981 when "Raiders of the Lost Ark" came out. I'll never forget that day and I still will argue with anyone that this is the best action-adventure movie ever made.

This same time period I started to become more and more attracted to older films that inspired me: "Harold and Maude," "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "Bonnie and Clyde," and most of the Monty Python movies. It's this well-rounded, albeit somewhat obscure, mixture of movies that have formulated my tastes today. Recent favorites (in no order):

  • Punch Drunk Love
  • The Royal Tenenbaums
  • Payback
  • Bandits
  • 12 Monkeys
  • Perfect World
  • Fifth Element
  • Garden State

Three of these movies star Bruce Willis but I've never considered myself a Bruce Willis fan. Odd.

Eric C LindstromIn making films, shorts and commercial projects, I have found a great partner to help satisfy these creative urges in Kevin Hicks. Although we are polar opposites on most fronts ... we somehow manage to work well together.

Early on we worked primarily on commercial projects that needed to "sell" something. Work for Cornell University and private companies helped us hone our skills at storytelling and soon spawned more "narrative-style" projects that were as entertaining as they were informative.

Then, in 2003 we shot and released "Cayuga Lake Wine Country: Road Trip," a 45-minute feature on the Cayuga Wine Trail. This was a great learning experience as the movie was accepted to the NY Independent Film Festival and was screened in the Village. Keep in mind this movie also featured: drinking wine, a red convertible, a few people laughing it up and a Saab (all of which we did BEFORE "Sideways" was even in pre-production). Does our movie deserve an Academy Award nomination for best picture? No way ... but it does feel like we were onto something.

Now in 2005, with "Waiting on Alphie" in post-production, I look back and realize how much I've learned and how much I'm about to learn about being a movie Producer (thank you, Dan Fried). It is an exciting time and there is no looking back! Here's to the movies!

Eric resides in the City of Ithaca with his beautiful wife, daughter, dog and cat. When he's not working (and the lake isn't frozen) he's captaining the family sailboat.
